Dagsson by EYGLO
Reykjavík based designer Eygló shouldn’t be unfamiliar to the readers of Tides and nor should comedian Hugleikur Dagsson. Lately, these two creative minds put together their creative outlets, and released a fashion collection together! Perfect for anyone who likes Eyglós classic designs such as her silk trousers and shirts, or more intricate pieces like her dresses, but with the sharp flare of Dagssons dark humour. With humour being no stranger to Eyglós previous collections, I found the collaboration not a surprising one and the outcome is definitely appetizing for the eye.
Eygló tells me that it started by Hugleikur wanting “to become a fashion star so I thought I could help with that. The process was so easy and natural. I went through his books and fell in love with one he wrote in 2011. I bounced some ideas to him and he just said yes all the time”.
As mentioned before, humour has always found it’s way to Eyglós collections. When we speak about the Eygló remarks “yeah, I mean the kill kill murder is funny in it self but otherwise the collection is rather classy in my opinion. Wearable with a playful twist”.
I asked Eygló how they went about making the prints for the collection to which she replies “I´m pretty good at making prints, as in making them go into repeat. I enjoy that process very much. I decided I wanted to use the pyramid in space picture so I just asked Hugleikur to draw more space clouds and put the whole thing into a print. Easy!”
When asking Eygló whether some people have been ‘distressed’ by the ‘kill kill murder’ print she tells me that funnily “I work as a tour guide on the side and I had some god fearing people with me the other day. I actually went to the store just before I brought them there and took the Kill kill murder pieces aside. I almost can´t believe I did that! But actually, some fine Range Rover driving ladies have actually been buying these! Love it!” Eygló goes on to say that “the silk sets always seem to work and are my go to outfit everyday. I also love the white outfits, I’m going to Greece and I’m gonna spill red wine and sauces all over me for a week”.
Talking about the collection maybe being more unisex this time around then before, albeit, men have been wearing her silk trousers for a while now! “I’ve always enjoyed it when men have bought my pieces to wear themselves. This time I wanted to show the possibility better by having one male model as well, and we got a pretty good one!”
Lastly, she tell me that creating collections like this it’s all about “seeing the story come alive. The prints being put together, finding the fabrics and buckles and realizing that the collection makes sense. I also very much enjoy making new shapes for clothing. Plus the hats! Lets not forget those hats!”
