This Thursday, the 12th of August, Hulda Katarína ceramic artist will host a soft opening and pre sale of her newly released vases, Likido. The event will be at Norr11 on Hverfisgata 18, an Icelandic extension of the Danish furniture and design company which originates from Copenhagen. The vases will retail there and at Norr11’s webiste from tomorrow and onwards.

In Hulda Katarínas work, she strives to enhance natural and ecological forms by both using hands and plaster molds. Hulda graduated last spring from The Reykjavík School of Visual Arts from the department of Ceramics. Alongside her studies she has shown her work both in solo and group exhibitions.

Hulda says she’s “not attracted to perfection and I think the Icelandic market is already very saturated by ‘the perfect mass produced item’. I want to enhance the importance of the craft itself and what makes it unique, such as visible strokes by the sponge or even a fingerprint”.

Likido is a new collection from the artist, and likido means ‘drop’ in the Visayan dialect of the Philippines, but Hulda has roots that go back to the Philippines. The inspiration behind the vase is water and the numerous forms which water and water drops can take on. They are porcelain vases which the artist pours into a cast mold. Therefore everyone vase is unique and with the artists personal handmade touch. They come in an addition of 10, and each is signed and numbered by the artist.

You are warmly welcomed to join Hulda at her event at Norr11, tomorrow, at Hverfisgata 18 from 16 - 18. Hand sanitizer and masks will be provided & we urge everyone to keep a safe distance.
