Playlist 3 by Ivey

Due to the release of ‘Love + Miscellanea’ Tides Magazine asked the five members of Australia based band 'Ivey to do our 3rd playlist. Each member added to it including some of their most influential artists and songs. Including upbeat left of the fields productions like Benny Blancos, Halseys and Khalids ‘ Eastside’, going on to such super honest songs such as The 1975s ‘It’s Not Living (if It’s Not With You)’ which have proven very influential to the bands lyrical writing process. Finishing the playlist off with their newest single, ‘I Hate U’ which is the final song off ‘love + miscellanea’ but it was the first one written for the EP almost 3 years ago. They explain to Tides Magazine“it discusses the struggle of fighting with someone you love and deals with the loss, resentment, loneliness and freedom of a break up. We like to juxtapose quite deep and personal experiences with fun and energetic soundscapes. We want the listener to initially enjoy and dance to the music but also stop and relate to the message”.

’Love + miscellanea’ explores the stages of a romantic relationship. Each song came from a different place in time and from our separate experiences. Once we aligned the songs, we realised that our individual stories were actually piecing together a timeline in which a single relationship begins, flourishes and eventually falls apart.  - Lachlan McGuffie
